Muolaa Cross
Muolaan Risti
The cross with this marking was intended for warriors of the 31st and 4th Regiments (Regiment) of the Finnish Army.
The cross is somewhat out of the set of these decorations. The first type is blue enamelled and the arms of the cross have the defensive districts of the units in small letters. The centre of the cross is formed by a white medallion bearing the year 1939-1940 and the numbers of the regiments fighting in this area. European-type crossed swords run through the centre of the cross. The cross in this form is clip-on.
However, another variant, which was recognised as an official decoration, was produced later, and is a classic cross, which is black enamelled or just black patinated. The centre of the cross bears a gold medallion and further on, between the arms, we find crossed swords. This cross is already worn in the classical way on a ribbon, either separately or on an order buckle.
