Commemorative medal for the conclusion of peace in 1791
"В память заключения мира с Турцией в 1791 году"

The medal was established to commemorate the conclusion of the peace with Highport. The actual act of signing took place in the town of Jassy, located on the Moldovan border (now Romania). Turkey finally loses the Crimea and the vast territory between the Bug and the Dnieper.

Description of the medal:

Obverse:
The medal has a raised edge with rivets on both sides. The whole gives the impression of a defensive shield. The medal features a crowned monogram of Tsarina Catherine II.

Revers:
A five-line inscription is spread across the surface of the medal:

ПОБЕ | ДИТЕЛЯМЪ | ПРИ МИРЕ | ДЕКАБРЯ 29 | 1791
(To the victors at the conclusion of the peace of 29 December 1791)

The medals were supplied without a tab and the soldiers had to provide their own tabs at their own expense. It is certain that most soldiers opted for the cheapest method, punching a small hole in the top of the decoration.

The size of the medal is 40x32 mm.

93,000 medals were struck at the St. Petersburg Mint, but only 60,000 medals were evidently distributed among the soldiers.
