The Order of Brotherhood and Unity is one of the first orders of the new Yugoslavia, which has its roots in the liberation, partisan struggles of the peoples of Yugoslavia. The name itself suggests that it is an order or decoration that will be held in high esteem by the Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, Macedonians, Albanians and other nationalities living on the territory of Yugoslavia
The oldest type is the order, which is more like a medal suspended from a classic pin with a ribbon. This order was produced and awarded only in a single degree. It was produced in the Soviet Union ( Mondvor ). The picture of the order shown here is taken from the collections of the Military Museum in Belgrade .


The order in its first type is extremely rare.

The Order of Brotherhood and Unity soon changes its form and shape, but the basic attributes, i.e. the flaming torches of freedom, remain.

Even during World War II, 38 officers of the Red Army were decorated with this high order, as well as 10 Albanians and 3 representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. After the end of the war, the order was quite often awarded to representatives of foreign states, both officers and civilians.

1st Order decoration with gold wreath and six flames
The appearance of the Order's decoration is identical, the gilt central medallion in this case bearing six red enamelled flames without handles. If you compare carefully, you will see that the Order differs only slightly from Type I. Therefore we will look at the pictures which are from the collections of Yugoslav and Russian or Ukrainian colleagues. Thank you for the pictures.
It is quite pleasing to find out that these Order jewels are also represented in the collections of our collectors, as my colleague Sehl has shown me, but also many other fellow-falerists.
