In June 1942, the regiment was armed with Yak-1 fighters and operated as part of the Southwest Front. During the summer it moved to the South-Eastern and later Voronezh Fronts, within which it participated in the fighting at Kursk in the summer of 1943. At the beginning of 1944 he was transferred to the 2nd Ukrainian Front, participated in the Yas-Kishinev operation and then fought over Romania, northern Hungary and southern Slovakia.
