Type 79 - 100 mm double cannon with a barrel length of 56 calibers, the basic cannon armament of Chinese surface vessels designed against ground and surface targets.
The cannon is in the arsenal of warships introduced into service during the 80s of the 20th century. Newer ships are equipped with an improved version of the Type 79A (sometimes referred to as PJ33A). History: Development of a 100 mm double cannon Type 79 began in 1979, was completed in 1979. Type 79 is a fully automatic cannon allowing accurate and rapid fire against surface vessels, ground targets and also against air targets at a distance of more than 22 km. All cannon systems are hidden in an armored turret providing good protection for the operator.
Type 79A was first used on class Type 052 beginner 90 - those of the 20th century. Compared to the Type 79, the new type has lower weight, higher accuracy, shorter reaction time and improved automatic control.
Another improved variant of Type 79 was first tested in 2004. The tower has a shape that reduces the radar effective reflection area. The new tower is used on new missile frigates Type 053H3 and also on class destroyers Type 052, Type 051B and some class destroyers [ url=/viewtopic.php/t/39348] Type 051[/url] po ich modernizácii. Gradually, all frigates and destroyers armed with double cannons Type 79 and Type 79A will be replaced by the type with this tower.
Use: The dual cannon can operate in automatic mode, semi-automatic mode and manual mode. In automatic mode, the shooting is controlled by a rifle radar and a ballistic computer (fire control system). In semi-automatic mode, the double cannon is guided by an electro-optical sight. In manual mode, aiming and charging is provided by the operator using an optical sight.
