AGM-22
French anti-tank guided missile SS.11 used by the US military, which began to be interested in it in the late fifties. For use on helicopters UH-1B was approved in 1961. It was manufactured under license by General Electric. The serial variant bore (since 1966) the designation AGM-22B (between 1963 and 1966 the name XAGM-22B was used, until 1963 it was referred to as SS.11B1).
In 1966, these missiles were used in combat in Vietnam War. Missile was controlled by wire operator from the helicopter using a small joystick. Controlling the missile and achieving intervention required considerable skill and experience, which led to lousy combat results. Although the AGM-22B were deployed in combat in Vietnam in 1967 and 1972, by the mid-1970s, they were decommissioned by the US Army.
