He participated in operations in Imphal, Burma and Indochina along with the 31st Division as part of the 15th Army.


In March 1944, he began fighting alongside his 138th Regiment in Operation U-Go, as part of the 31st Division commanded by Gen. Sato. After the failure of the offensive and the regiment's difficult start, he commands this regiment in the retreat fighting in Burma.


He becomes commander of the 138th Regiment in 1943, at which time he also becomes a colonel.
