Even before the start of World War II, Germany began to produce special receivers designed to monitor (eavesdropping/monitoring) radio transmitters with an emphasis on detecting and exposing illegal stations. Gradually the company. Lorenz and Telefunken developed a number of versions that were used by police and military ground and air units.
The receivers excelled in sensitivity and covered a wide frequency range from 75 kHZ to 305 MHz. In conjunction with an "attachment" - a goniometer with a frame antenna, they also served as radio direction finders. The direction finder was determined by hearing - to the so-called minimum audibility.
