USA - CBU-87/B

CBU-87/B CEM

Containerized multi-role bomb weighing 431 kg. CEM (Combined Effects Munition). It is able to destroy a variety of target types. It can be used to destroy armored equipment, lightly armored targets, and pěchot, all with high efficiency. Check out the description of her submunitions. Before dropping the bomb, the pilot has to choose one of the two modes. Either the boost or the recovery. In the čascent mode, the bomb container opens after a čtime interval, which is set on the ground in a range of 0.63 to 4.15 seconds in 12 steps. The container is opened in the approximate mode when the set height above the ground is reached. This value can also be set on the ground in a range of 40 to 1400 metres in steps. The height měřmř is determined by the Doppler radar ignition FZU-39/B.

About 80 ms after the bomb is dropped from the aircraft, the aft stabilization surfaces unfold, making its longitudinal rotation more comfortable. The latter, on the one hand, ensures stabilization of the virtually unrestricted flight and, on the other hand, enables the process of natural opening of the container and subsequent ejection of the submunition in the wake of the centrifugal force. The rotation can be selected in the range of 0 - 2500 rpm. This speed can be reached within 0.5 seconds after the throw. A rotation speed of 500 rpm is considered optimal. One cougar should cover an area of 400 x 200 metres. It contains 202 pieces of submunitions BLU-97/B in SUU-65/B. It was deployed to the USAF in 1986, the Navy received it a year later. In Operation Desert Storm, a total of 34,000 bombs of various types were dropped, of which the CBU-70s were 10,035. In Operation Allied Force, over 1100 bombs of various types were dropped, most of which were CBU-87s.
