CBU-87/B CEM
Containerized multi-role bomb weighing 431 kg. CEM (Combined Effects Munition). It is able to destroy a variety of target types. About 80 ms after the bomb is dropped from the aircraft, the aft stabilization surfaces unfold, making its longitudinal rotation more comfortable. The latter, on the one hand, ensures stabilization of the virtually unrestricted flight and, on the other hand, enables the process of natural opening of the container and subsequent ejection of the submunition in the wake of the centrifugal force. The rotation can be selected in the range of 0 - 2500 rpm. This speed can be reached within 0.5 seconds after the throw. A rotation speed of 500 rpm is considered optimal. One cougar should cover an area of 400 x 200 metres. It contains 202 pieces of submunitions BLU-97/B in SUU-65/B. It was deployed to the USAF in 1986, the Navy received it a year later. In Operation Desert Storm, a total of 34,000 bombs of various types were dropped, of which the CBU-70s were 10,035. In Operation Allied Force, over 1100 bombs of various types were dropped, most of which were CBU-87s.
