Short history of the regiment


It was formed in May 1941 at the airport Air Race No. 18 in Voronezh under the name 1. Special Purpose Air Regiment. From July 1, the name of the regiment was changed to 430. Battle Air Regiment. The pilots of the regiment included test pilots of the Scientific Research Institute of the Air Force, who had extensive previous experience in combat in Spain, China, Mongolia and Finland. It was their experience that presupposed the rapid acquisition of new fighter jets Ilyushin Il-2 and the development of the most optimal combat tactics for their use. The regiment, which was assigned 22 fighters, moved on Thursday, July 3, 1941 to Zubovo Airport, located near the town of Orša. At the same time he was under the command of 23. mixed aviation division.

After heavy losses of aircraft and pilots, the regiment was disbanded on August 15, 1941, ie after less than a month of existence, by the directive of the Deputy People's Commissar of Defense (Soviet designation of the Minister) No. 165163. Airworthy fighters were transferred to 4. battle air regiment and some of the surviving pilots returned to their previous, no less dangerous, job of test pilots at the Scientific Research Institute of the Air Force. Based on the rest of the regiment was formed 38. separate reconnaissance squadron.
