history

The airport was newly built in 1941 and 15. December of the same year was officially put into operation. During the 2. world war ii, there were deployed units of the canadian, british and american air force. 1. April 1946 was transferred under civilian administration, but a unit of the us air force have been placed here to continue.
15. April 1953 was reactivated the base of the RCAF and the canadian and american air units were active here until its re-abolition in 1964, when the airport again came under the civil administration.
In the present day bears the name of the International airport St. John's (St. John's International Airport).
