296. IAP (from 3.5.1943 73. GIAP)
In the summer of 1941 had a regiment base near the city of Krivoy Rog and his pilots were flying on aeroplanes, I-16. Their operational area fell within the area of effect of the south-west front. In October 1941 were I-16 replaced by jet fighters MiG-3 and the end of the year the regiment received letouy How-1. In the spring of 1942 moved to the airport Brigadirovka (south of Kharkov) and later that year was followed by operational flights in Stalingrad. Then the regiment moved to the South front, and in the summer of 1943 was liberating Donbas and Rostov-on-Don. During the year 1944 he fought in part 2.Ukrainian and 3.Ukrainian front. His operating space was Romania and Hungary, at the end of the war, then northern Hungary, southern Slovakia and Moravia. The regiment was zařažen as part of 186. IAD, which became 6.GIAD.
