In 1915, a series of four Renault 18/20 HP type ED (model 1914) vehicles were built, which had modified armour capable of withstanding the German S-Patrone armour-piercing ammunition. At least one vehicle from this small series was modified again in 1918 by conversion to a gun vehicle (37 mm Model 1916 semi-automatic gun). The original wooden spoke wheels were replaced with solid steel wheels in 1920.
In 1932, one vehicle was modified by the experimental lafetation of a Hotchkiss Model 1930 large-calibre machine gun of 13.2 mm calibre.
