The only thing I could find about the Chief of Staff of the 49th Panzer Division, V.M. Matveyev is that he was missing in action until 02.01.1942 (see the first attached document). As it appears from the attached file card (second document), a certain V.M. Matveyev died in a German prisoner of war camp on 30.01.1942. Matveyev, born in 1912, but without indicating his rank it is impossible to identify him with the missing Chief of Staff, although the dates of death suggest this.
