Munition- und Mannschaftsträger auf Fahrgestell 38(t)

During the development of the new armoured personnel carrier development programme, Kätzchen 38t, one technology demonstrator was created in quick response to a German requirement. The prototype was based on the Marder III Ausf.M (Sd.Kfz.138) tank fighter. The machine was to serve either as an infantry transport or as an ammunition vehicle.
In the role of an infantry transporter, there was room for 11 soldiers in the combat section of the superstructure. These were seated on wooden benches placed on the sides and in the rear of the fighting compartment. It differed from the tank interceptor only by a slightly modified superstructure. The space left by the missing gun was covered by a solid conical armour plate, the sides and rear of the superstructure were raised to better cover the load and the landing party. For better access to the fighting compartment there were large two-piece doors at the rear. These structural additions were made of wood. Only this demonstrator was built, this design of the new armoured personnel carrier was not satisfactory.
