This "regiment of wrestlers", as in some cases the soldiers themselves called themselves, certainly deserves our attention. Their military deployment and campaign in the Great War is well known. Less well known is perhaps the fact that this regiment and its soldiers were a unit that was awarded orders and honors quite above standard. It was also because the unit was always deployed where it was necessary to capitalize on the military enthusiasm of the Croats, who formed the core of the regiment. It is not without interest that the command corps was also represented by officers at lower command levels from Bohemia and Moravia.
It was perhaps the regiment commander himself and his staff, who had the inscription on the edges of the medals made an inscription, which was a reminder of the service of the regiment. There are orders and decorations that bear a single inscription:
From the Officer Corps of k.u.k. Otočaner Infanteriregiments Graf Jellačič No 79 (see picture)
The headquarters did not even underestimate the possibility of awarding decorations with this inscription on the edge or on the etui for medals for soldiers and non-commissioned officers. (see etude)
The history of the regiment and the ethnic composition and, of course, the name of General Jelačice was used in the formation of the army of the Free State of Croatia in 1941. At present, the young Croatian state does not forget the glory of this regiment The glory of the regiment has survived to this day.
In the etui, which was privately made by an officer of the regiment, are inserted two Meritorious Medals of Signum Laudis. Both have a jeweled inscription on the edge, which we are talking about here.
