Esc. AB1 acted as & # 269; as & # 357; aircraft aviation ship Béarn. After its elimination from the combat service in 1939, it would be rearmed to the company's new dive bombers Vought V-156-F. The rearmament, rearrangement and reformation of the unit took place in Lanveoc-Poulmic, after which the Escadrille was moved to the vicinity of Boulogne, to Alprecht Airport on the coast of the English Channel. Since November 1939 (11/1939), her aircraft have been involved in naval patrol flights and the protection of Allied convoys in the English Channel and the North Sea.
Escadrille AB 1 was deployed in combat 20.05.1940 against the bridges on the river Oise in the north of France near the town of Origny-Ste-Benoite and after them moving German armored units. The attack was carried out despite the fact that the naval pilots were not trained to attack similar targets. Of the 11 aircraft deployed, 5 were shot down during an attack by German fighters Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 (or Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1?)
The remaining AB1 aircraft were involved in supporting the evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk. From 26.05.1940 to 04.06.1940 with the remaining 6 aircraft attacked German tanks and artillery positions in the loss of one aircraft.
