Harvester International D-15 Metro

Two Harvester International D-15 Metro ambulances were purchased and delivered to the Czechoslovak Independent Brigade on July 23, 1941 by the National Union of Catholics in the USA. Both ambulances were modified and equipped by the compatriot company United Body of the Shimaner Brothers in Chicago, USA, for 4500 USD. Both ambulances were assigned to the Czechoslovak Army Ambulance Corps in the UK and received registration numbers A1279173 and A1279174. The Harvester International D-15 Metro with registration number A1279173 was used by F/O Mikulas Rusnak, a dentist with 311 Squadron RAF. After the end of the war, this Harvester International D-15 Metro made its way to Czechoslovakia and was assigned to duty as an ambulance at the Military Hospital in Hradec Kralove. It later served in civilian service and was decommissioned in the 1980s. In 2003, the KVH "Rota Nazdar" was discovered and reconstructed. The post-war fate of the second Harvester International D-15 Metro is unknown to the author.
