402nd IAP
The regiment was established in June 1941 from the ranks of the fighter pilots. It was armed with MiG-3s and initially fought as part of the Northwest Front. In the autumn it was rearmed with LaGG-3 fighters and by the end of the year most of the pilots had returned to their normal work. The regiment, however, continued in operational service. It was reassigned to the Caucasus Front and became part of the 265th IAD in the 3rd IAC. It then fought on the North Caucasus Front (armed with Yak-1 aircraft). In April 1943 he takes part in the fighting over Kuban and then fights in the Southern Front over the Sea of Azov. At the end of the year the Southern Front is renamed the 4th. Ukrainian Front and the regiment participates in the liberation of Crimea. This is followed by reassignment to the 1st Belorussian Front and action over Belarus, Lithuania, Poland and during the final months of the war over Germany.
