Chief of Artillery of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic Col. Roman Bobal:
The regiment will consist of three artillery detachments plus one rocket launcher detachment. This unit will provide troops for the benefit of the mechanized brigades, and at the same time the commander of the operational group will have his element of fire support in the performance of combat tasks. The formation of a reconnaissance artillery detachment is currently under discussion, but the form of the detachment has not yet been decided.
The existing components of the regiment are the 21st self-propelled artillery detachment stationed in Michalovce and the 54th rocket launcher detachment in Roznava. As of 1 September, the organisational core of the 56th Anti-Tank Troop was formed, which will be based in Rožňava. In the coming years we have to complete two more self-propelled artillery detachments. Today we already have weapons for the 52nd self-propelled artillery detachment - 16 Susan 2000. And for the 53rd Artillery Detachment under construction, we have 18 D-30 towed howitzers. The future will tell how long they will remain in armament even considering the Soviet caliber. Or more specifically, when we will rearm them to the unified NATO caliber, which is 155mm. They may be replaced, for example, by the Eva system, which was developed for the benefit of our armed forces by the Slovak defence industry in Dubnica nad Váhom.
