The regiment, armed with Yak-1 aircraft, fought from the spring of 1942 with the Stalingrad Front as part of the 288th IAD. During 1943 it operated over Kursk as part of the Southwest Front, and in 1944 its pilots flew Yak-9 fighters with the 3rd Ukrainian Front over Romania, Yugoslavia and Hungary. At the end of the war, he replaced the Yak-9s with the newer Yak-3s.
