MAA-1 Piranha

MAA-1 Piranha is the anti-aircraft missile short range missile with infrared exhortations. Its development was initiated in 1976, however, for the old was seen even before the entry into operational service. The Piranha was initially essentially the modification of the u.s. PLŘS AIM-9B Sidewinder. The project was kept secret until the turn of the years 1981/1982. After testing missiles in the eighties, it was assumed that the first Piranhi enter service in 1989. The Program, however, slowly continued until 1993, when it was revised. The name of the project is maintained, the bullet this time should be the basis of the Sidewinderu version AIM-9E. The first commissioned series should include 100 missiles. The brazilian air force planned total buy 1 000 missiles, which should be equipped with machines AMX, F-5E Tiger II, Mirage III and AT-26 Xavante. During the delay of the development of the missile, the Brazilians tried to get a AIM-9L the US, however, nabádly just an older version AIM-9D and AIM-9G/H. After the sharp shootings of missiles Piranha in 1995 and 1996, and still nedotaženém the development of the brazilian air force decided to buy the 120 israeli PLŘS Python 3 as an interim solution pending will be available full-MAA-1 Piranha. After another series of tests and homologací was a serial production finally began in 2003.
