Pluk vznikl v roce 1860 sloučením Četnického pluku č. 8 pro Sedmihradsko a Četnického pluku č. 9 pro Vojvodinu.



V roce 1863 byl pluk přejmenován na Četnický pluk č. 9 pro Sedmihradsko. Území Vojvodiny bylo převedena do působnosti Četnického pluku č. 6 pro Uhry a Vojvodinu.
