USA - BLU-97/B CEM

Submunitions. A bomb weighing 1.54 kg. Of this, the head weighs 0.29 kg. Length before discharge 0.169 m, body diameter 64 mm.

In the range from 0.4 to 0.8 seconds after spreading from the bomb container, the bomb develops braking stabilizing surfaces. This extends its length to 0.356 m. The surfaces reduce the forward speed and direct it to the optimal, vertical position. This is necessary to achieve the maximum effect. At the same time, a spring-mounted sensor is thrown to the ground, which senses the optimal distance to the target. After reaching it, the combat part of the bomb is initiated. The target hits from above. The high density (but does not use DU - depleted uranium) of the pump guarantees high efficiency. The cumulative warhead (with a directional effect) pierces up to 125 mm of armor. The target penetrates only its kinetic energy. The fragmentary body - the shell of the bomb - can hit the manpower up to a distance of 150 meters from the longitudinal axis of flight. At 15 meters light armor pierces, at 75 meters it is able to destroy aircraft. Disperses about 300 shards. A special zirconium igniter ring, which is initiated by a piezoelectric igniter, can ignite fuels, flammable materials, military equipment accessories,….

Note (unwarranted Smile): The piercing head should be copper. Copper has a high density and is easily fusible. The charge melts the copper and at the same time gives it great speed - kinetic energy.

The CEM (Combined Effects Munition) mark bears the full right. It is an ideal multi-purpose weapon usable against a wide range of combat equipment on the battlefield. Tanks, OT, columns, warehouses, aircraft on the ground,…
