In the analogy of the collapse of the USSR, the division was divided between Russia (division headquarters and 2 Guards Paratroop Regiments - 217th and 300th), Ukraine (part of the personnel and part of the support units) and Moldova (part of the division personnel and equipment of the 299th Paratroop Regiment and the 1065th Artillery Regiment), and effectively ceased to exist as a military union. For this reason, the remnants of the division were reorganized in 1993, with the original 300th Guards Parachute Regiment being redeployed to Abakan, where a new 100th Airborne Brigade was formed at its base, and the 331st Guards Parachute Regiment was attached to the division from the 106th Guards Parachute Division subordinate 106th Guards Airborne Division.
