Colonel Pyotr Dmitrievich ANSIMOV

Pyotr Dmitrievich Ansimov was born on August 19, 1901, in the village of Sinodskoye, Verkhozimsky district of Petrovsky uyezd, Saratov guberniya (now the Shemiheysky district of Penza oblast). According to another version, he came from the village of Sinodskoye in Voskresensk District in Saratov Oblast. But the variant with the Shemiheysky district is much more likely, because that is where the surname Anfimov occurs, and most sources speak of the village of Sinodskoye of the Verkhozimsky district, i.e., the village that was incorporated into the Penza Oblast in 1939.

During the Civil War, P. D. Anfimov was drafted into the Red Army in February 1920 and enlisted in the 2nd Independent Brigade of the Volga Military District. He did not take part in the fighting. In September 1920 he joined the 48th Infantry Machine Gun Course in Stavropol and studied first at the telephone and telegraph, then at the infantry department. In September 1922, he completed his training and was sent to the 96th Infantry Regiment of the 32nd Rifle Division in Tsaritsyno (present-day Volgograd), where he served as a squad leader, deputy commander, and platoon commander. From October 1926 to October 1927, he was retrained at the military school in Ulyanovsk, then served as company commander and regimental school chief in the 93rd Rifle Regiment of the 31st Rifle Division. In February 1934, he was transferred to the Far East as commander of the training battalion of the 8th Independent Rifle Regiment of the Sukhan Sector of the Coastal Defense Pacific Fleet. From May 1936 he also served as the regiment's deputy commander for material support. From November 1937 to November 1938, he was on the "Vystrel" course. After their graduation, he was appointed commander of the 232nd Independent Rifle Regiment 4th Rifle Brigade 59th Rifle Corps. In April 1941, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the same 4th Rifle Brigade.

At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Colonel Anfimov again commanded the 232nd Rifle Regiment from August 1941. In November he was appointed commander of the 70th Naval Rifle Brigade of the Siberian Military District. In January 1942, the brigade was transferred to the 7th Army and took up defences on the Svir River. From July to November 1943, P. D. Anfimov was on accelerated courses at the K. E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy. From July to November 1943 P. D. Anfimov was on an accelerated course at the Higher Military Academy named after K. E. Voroshilov, then transferred to the 7th Army.

On 20. December 1943, he was appointed commander of the 21st Rifle Division, which was on the defensive along the Svir River on the border between Lake Ladoga and Lake Onega. On 25 March 1944, he was relieved of his command of the division and assigned to the reserve administration of the front line cadres. On 26 June 1944, P. D. Anfimov was appointed deputy commander of the 64th Rifle Division. As part of the 49th Army, he participated with it in the Belorussian, Mogilev, Minsk, and Belorussian offensive operations. By order of the High Command of 10 July 1944, the division was given the honorary name "Mogilev". In July, its units forcibly crossed the Neman River near the town of Belica and from 1 August 1944 fought to capture the town and the fortress of Osovets. During these battles on 27 August 1944 Colonel Anfimov was killed. He was 43 years old at the time.
