Ivčenko AI-25TL

Jet engine Ivchenko AI-25TL is the basic power unit of the airplane L-39. The first engine AI-25TL was installed in the prototype L-39 X-02. Development was completed in October 1971. Subsequently launched the rebuilding of the prototype X-07, which came to air in march 1972.
The letters TH represent a "T" as a "TEMPERATURE (ТЕМПЕРАТУРА)" and "L" as the L-39.

Double shaft double current motor. It consists of a fixed inlet, an axial compressor, an actuator housing with distributor, an annular combustion chamber and a three-stage axial gas turbine. The engine also includes a mixing chamber, an extension pipe and an outlet nozzle. The compressor assembly comprises a low-pressure three-stage compressor (NTK) (on one shaft) and a nine-stage high-pressure compressor (VTK) (on the other shaft).

The NTK consists of an inlet rectifier with air-heated vanes (taken after the ninth stage VTK), a rotor of drum-and-disk design and a stator with similar full-vane rectifier bodies.

The VTK consists of an inlet baffle with adjustable blades and automatic position fixation for lowering has a rotor of similar construction to the NTK, a stator and air release valves downstream of the 3rd and 5th stages. The outer shell of the NTK forms the inner surface of the second air stream. Behind the VTK air is taken for pressurizing the cabin, the air conditioning system and for de-icing the engine and leading edges of the air inlets (internal heating under the stainless steel plate) and the cabin faceplate by external blowing.

Between the NTK and VTK is located the actuator housing, which by its position distributes air to both streams, and which houses the drives of the gensets and the compressor shaft bearing housings.
The combustion chamber has a ring-type flame with twelve heads, the main fuel nozzles being single-channel centrifugal.

The turbine is a twin-shaft, reaction-type, three-stage turbine. Its first stage drives the VTK and has stator and rotor blades cooled by secondary air taken from the combustion chamber. The second and third stages of the turbine drive the NTK. The sense of rotation of the rotors is to the left when viewed from the rear.

In 1974, retrofitting of engines to L-39 Series 1 aircraft began. Approximately 5,000 AI-25TL engines have been produced to date.

The engine manufacturer is Progress Zaporozhye.

Technical data:
Max. Static thrust - 16,87 kN
Bypass ratio - 2,0
Total compression - 9,5
Specific consumption at normal tension 15 kN - 60 kg/kN/h
Acceleration time when the engine inlet lever is moved from idle to maximum mode - 9 to 12 s
