RSA-3 - three-stage ballistic missile with a range of over 9000 km, capable of carrying a conventional or nuclear charge.
In South Africa, the RSA-3 ballistic missile under development was expected to be capable of delivering a 400 kg warhead over a distance of 9200 km (5717 mi), but warheads weighing 340 to 400 kg were not available and their development was in the preparatory phase.
South Africa halted the development of ballistic missiles after renouncing nuclear weapons on July 10, 1991. A civilian version of the rocket adapted for space research was being considered. It was expected to carry satellites weighing up to 330 kg to a height of 500 km. However, the development of civilian modification was terminated due to commercial non-viability.
Production of RSA-3 missiles stopped in mid-1993.
Launcher for RSA-3 canceled in mid-1994.
