8,8 cm L/71 auf Pz.Kpfw. IV (projekt)
In the Bundesarchiv there is a drawing Hln - B 145 in M1:10 dated 17.11.1944 (archive signature RH 8/v 3935 K-9), which records the design of a tank fighter using the platform Pz.Kpfw. IV. The platform itself would be modified, with the engine moved to the center of the platform. An armoured superstructure was to be mounted at the rear, which would house a powerful 8.8 cm anti-tank gun. Mention and a sketch of the same project is found in Mr. Spielberger's publication1).
An attempt to build a fighter on this old and overloaded platform would probably have had no chance of success. Continued mass production of the platform itself was not envisaged at the end of World War II.
