10 mm Surabaya (sometimes also Soerabaja)

A cartridge for the police revolver introduced before World War I. The revolver was introduced in Dutch India in the first World War II. Surabaya is the second largest city in present-day Indonesia. The cartridge has a special stamped year of manufacture on the side of the bullet (41) on the other side is stamped the month in this case February. The cartridge has no bottom markings, the right is a 9 mm Luger cartridge. Photo by.

Let me clarify, the cartridge is not for a "police" revolver, but for a revolver supplied to the KNIL, i.e. the Dutch East Indies Army. It (the revolver) was introduced in 1895 and the cartridge for it was designated 9.4x23 or 9.4x27, the cartridge was made in two lengths as the original black powder charge was later changed to a smokeless powder charge. The designation 10 mm Soerabaya (it is more common than Surabaya) was probably because although the gun has a calibre of 9.4 mm (the dimension in the grooves is 9.6 mm in the fields 9.4 mm) the actual projectile has a diameter of 10 mm. The revolver which has the designation model 1891 (the year of the decision to introduce it) was about 30 years later (from 1927) gradually handed over to the police forces, but it is originally an army weapon and only secondarily used by the police. The revolver was originally manufactured in Liege, and later by Vickers in England (for the police).

OK, Malimánek-Hýkel states the charge as police, but elsewhere in the literature it is listed as military. I would like to add that the bullets with a shorter cartridge had a pointed bullet against the original bullet.
