Activated at Fort Lewis (WA) from anti-tank 3rd Infantry Division.
Equipped with M18 Hellcat in October 1943 and shipped to Europe.

Arrived at Cannock, England on 18 April 1944 and entered France via Utah Beach on 21 and 22 July 1944. As early as 28.7.1944 she joined the fighting
as part of Operation Cobra, the breakthrough from the Normandy beaches into the interior of France. She advanced through Brittany towards Brest and Lorient, which she captured in August, and drove east along the Moselle. In October 1944 she fought east of Nancy and supported the crossing of the Saar River in November 1944. In December of that year, she fought in the Sarreguemines area, but a German counterattack in the Ardennes forced her to change direction and move to the Bastogne area, where the badly battered airborne and dog divisions resisted one of the last major tank strikes by German troops.

After repelling this threat, it advanced towards the Siegfried Line (February 1945), and in March 1945 moved into the 7th Army area, reaching the Rhine River in Rhine-Durkheim on 21 March 1945. Assigned back to 3rd Army, she crossed the Rhine River at Oppenheim on 25 March 1945 and fought her way through the encircled German troops at Fulda towards
Erfurt in April 1945. She helped liberate Buchenwald on 11 April 1945 and reached the line separating the American advance from the Soviet advance, at Mittweida, about 15 April 1945.

During its time in the ETO, this battalion served with the following units :

17th Airborne Division
4th Armored division
6th Armored division
3rd Cavalry Group
