Recently, photos of an interesting rebuild of the Sd.Kfz platform have surfaced. 138M (Marder III Ausf. M, Grille M, Flakpanzer 38(t)). Probably a post-war Czechoslovak conversion for civilian use. A pair of vehicles is documented photographically. In the rear of the vehicles, where the original fighting compartment was, where the gun or howitzer was mounted, some sort of device was mounted with a coil on which a cable or wire rope was wound. My guess is that it was either some sort of winch vehicle designed to haul heavy objects or it was a self-propelled cable-laying machine.
The vehicles were marked with registration numbers "P-92277" and "P-91644". It can be determined from the registration letter 'P' that the vehicles were registered in the district of the Directorate of National Defence of the Capital City of Prague. The first digit on the plate '9' indicated the type of vehicle. In this case it was a tractor or a special vehicle. Such plates were used until the introduction of the new registration system in 1953.
1)In the period just after the end of World War II, the 1st Tank Battalion of the Czechoslovak Army in Prague had a total of six tank fighters Marder III Ausf. M. The vehicles bore the designations of Assault Vehicles ÚV 301 - ÚV 306. It is known that one of them (ÚV 305, probably bearing Czechoslovak Army registration number 67472) was converted to a self-propelled gun in 1948 with the original armament, but with unknown modifications. It subsequently served for training until 10/1950, when it was stripped of its armament and sold to Energostav, which used it to build high tension masts. The source mentions that another vehicle was also sold to Energostav Marder Ausf. H, which was also used for the experimental conversion of a tank fighter. This was vehicle ÚV 755 (probably bearing Czechoslovak army registration number 67473). It is possible that a number of these platforms were used and the photographs are of vehicles used for the above purpose. They could be vehicles with a coil of electric cable that could be stretched between the poles.
