The central military health institute (ÚVZÚ) was a professional device in the structure of the medical services of the Army of the Czech republic. It was a specialized device with celoarmádní application, which fulfils the tasks associated with the performance of state administration in protection of public health, including the performance of state health supervision in the armed forces, in the Ministry of defence and in his scope of established components of the state and contributory organisations.

The central military health institute and its branches:
- ensure hygiene-protiepidemické tasks
- carry out professional hygienic-anti-epidemic measures,
- collect, analyse and evaluate the hygienic and epidemiological data, including the epidemiology of drug dependence, and perform expert tasks
- addressed the issue of hygiene of microwave radiation and an air noise,
- in the defined scope to address the issues of protection against ionizing radiation,
- participate in evaluation of the health status of soldiers in relation to the conditions of service or employment,
- fulfil the role of the vaccination centres of the armed forces..
