A photograph of a Saudi soldier fighting Houthis and armed with a Chinese-made Norinco LG5 portable grenade launcher, which appeared on social media on 3 November 2019, is the first evidence of the use of this weapon in Yemen.
The LG5 in 40mm calibre is an export variant of the QLU-11 35mm grenade launcher. It was successfully tested by Chinese naval infantrymen during a deployment against Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden, and is often referred to as a "sniper grenade launcher" due to its ability to hit point targets and its advanced targeting system.
