LPWS (Land-based Phalanx System) is a means of Very Short-range Air Defense (VSHORAD) and was developed based on the requirements of US forces deployed in Iraq after 2003, as the existing means in armaments were not able to act against mortar and rocket raids by local insurgent and other armed groups. The development was carried out relatively quickly (initial operational capability was achieved in 2005), as a system capable of destroying these funds was introduced in the navy as Mk-15 Phalanx. LPWS (Land-Based Phalanx Weapon System)
This is the land version of the Phalanx, coming out of the naval version of the Block 1B. This version is intended for defense against rocket and artillery attacks.
