The M56 anti-tank mine (Pansermine M/56) is a high-explosive contact mine designed to destroy vehicles. The mine is non-metallic, cylindrical in shape.

Country of origin. It is probably a copy of the French mine Model 1951/52 (Mi AC ID 51/52)

The explosive charge of the mine consists of three segments of cast TNT (reinforced with about 5% glass wool). The central core contains a mounted fuse and detonator. Above this section is a pressure plate which provides the transmission of the activating force from the wheels (tracks) of the vehicle. The outer ring holds the whole body of the mine together. The outer ring also contains a carrying handle. The surface of the mine is glazed with epoxy resin, which ensures its water resistance. There are holes on the side of the mine and at the bottom of the mine where secondary detonators can be installed.

The mine requires a blast of approximately 200 kg to activate and the explosive weight should be 7,2 kg.

The mine's design, with a minimum of metal parts, makes the use of conventional metal detectors to detect it very difficult, if not impossible, in field conditions.
