history
Perú was formed on 1 June 1937 at Dyce as an Army Co-Operation unit within the Auxiliary Air Force. In November 1938 it is transferred to the Coastal Air Force (Coastal Command) as a maritime reconnaissance and patrol unit. In this role, it also took part in WW2 combat, conducting anti-submarine and anti-submarine patrols over the Bay of Biscay, the North Sea, the North Atlantic or along the coasts of Norway or the Netherlands. Shortly after the end of the war it is disbanded on 9 July 1945.
On 10 May 1946, it is re-established at Dyce as a Royal Auxiliary Air Force fighter unit designed mainly to fly reservists, and with the abolition of this RAF component on 10 March 1957, it ceases to exist.
It was last formed in 1999 at Leuchars as a medical support unit composed of reservists.
