The aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) was commissioned into the U.S. Navy on December 14, 1927, but initially the individual deck rods were individually controlled. It was not until 01.07.1938 that the Lexington Air Group was formed as a unit to provide unified command and control of the deck squadrons.


The Air Group was disbanded on 08.05.1942 after the sinking of an aircraft carrier.
