IN 5/1918 J.L. Breton (Director of Innovation, Studies and Technical Testing of Artillery) set out the requirements for the creation of self-propelled guns using tank components Renault FT 17.
The first attempt to use the light tank design Renault FT 17 was the 105 mm Schneider 105L Model 1913 gun. The gun was lafeted towards the rear. This was only an experimental prototype, further interest was focused on the lafetation of a smaller 75 mm field gun Schneider Model 1897 (designs by Renault, STAV and STA).
