Gentlemen,
It is said that Rheinmetall was not satisfied with its participation (90% Nexter, 10% KMW) in the development of the Franco-German EMBT (European Main Battle Tank) and therefore presented its vision of the Panther KF51 main battle tank at Eurosatory 2022. The manufacturer of the prototype (demonstrator) claims that the tank's crew has greater situational awareness thanks to the tank's built-in sensors and digital NGVA (NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture) design, and that the tank is able to operate effectively in seek-and-kill (hunter-killer and killer-killer) modes.
The built-in 130mm FGS (Future Gun System) cannon is more powerful than current cannons and reportedly more reliable than the competing 140mm Ascalon cannon from Nexter. The KF51 tank's only flaw may be the small amount of ammunition carried.
The modular turret system allows the vehicle to be equipped with various remotely controlled active and passive defence systems. For example: the 7.62mm machine gun mounted in the Natter RCWS remote-controlled weapon station allows for a circular defence of the vehicle up to a distance of 1500 m. Or the TAPS (Top Attack Protection System) active defence system, which is designed to be effective against missiles and drones attacking from the upper hemisphere. For firing beyond the horizon, a quadruplet of remote-controlled Hero 120 drones (UCAV Hero 120, licensed by the Israeli company UVision) is stored in the tower.
In designing the propulsion system, Rheinmetall has discarded the fashionable hybrid design and stuck to a conventional layout.
