He was born 19. may 1887 in Salt as the son of a manufacturer Maxmiliana Hirsch. After his father died, probably in 1899, his mother Marie Eugenie (*3.1. 1866, +9.2. 1943) she moved with three children to his father, Johanna Etrichovi to Trutnov and she changed her name to Hesse after his mother's maiden name. He attended college where he earned an Engineering degree. Military compulsory service in the Austro-Hungarian army refused at the refused at the Galician Ulanenregiment Nr.1 (Hulánský regiment no. 1), where he earned the rank of Leutnant in der Reserve.
On the earlier century have gone crazy like many of his peers in aviation. He was a co-owner of the aircraft factories in Germany that produced and sold the aircraft etrich club Taub. He was a relative of the world famous designer Igo Etricha. In the summer of 1911 he graduated from pilot school in Fischmendu. The austrian pilot diploma FAI number 31 got 19. October, 1911, and a badge field pilot three years later 31. October 1914.
At the beginning of the war he served with the unit Flik 1, under the command of Hauptmann Josef Cream. 14. November 1914 was shot down along with the observer Oberleutnant Otto Jindra. With the machine Albatros B.I 21.14 (took off from the airport Brekov Slovakia) had to after the enemy fire from the ground, crash-land on a hostile, therefore, Russian territory near Królik Woloski (Królik Polski). After lighting the aeroplane and a few daily fly over the ridges of the Carpathians, they managed to reach their own positions. Probably at the turn of the years 1914 – 1915 he was promoted to Oberleutnant.
12. January 1915 enrolled in the history, when first using a radio corrected artillery fire 305mm mortar M. 11 manufactured by the Skoda factory. It happened against the Russian battery in Galicia in the transport rail hub in Tarnově. I on board, at the place of the observer was sitting Oberleutnant Ludwig Dumbacher on board the plane Albatros B.I 21.07 with filename "MUSSL", equipped with a 42kg heavy radio kit.
Later it was translated (1916) to Flik 18, where he held the position of šéfpilota deputy commander of the company. At the beginning of 1918 he was promoted to Hauptmann and given command of the bomber aviation company Flik 102 G in Aviano at Prodenone on piavské the queue.
After the crash, the commander of Fliegergruppe G Hauptmann Otto Jindra 4. in may 1918 he became commander of the bomber group Fliegergruppe G.
After the end of the war he settled in the Czech republic. In 1934 it is reported permanent residence in the town of Trutnov.
