The 74th Mechanized Battalion was established on January 1, 2020 as a result of the transformation from 74. light motorized battalion. 74th Mechanized Battalion is part of the ACR ground forces and is organizationally integrated into the structure 7. mechanized brigades. It is the basic tactical unit of the mechanized army, which is designed to perform tactical tasks in the combat formation of the mechanized brigade or independently.


It can perform tasks:
- in the task force;
- in the composition of the mechanized brigade;
- in the assembly of the mechanized division;
- separately.


The 74th Mechanized Battalion has a new organizational structure, ready for the newly introduced infantry fighting vehicle. It will be the first mechanized battalion 7. mechanized brigade, which will be armed with this technique. Subsequently, it will be characterized by a high degree of readiness, high mobility and firepower, the ability to move quickly over various distances. This corresponds to its organizational structure, in which the individual elements are integrated into three basic units, ie. into the combat part, the combat support part and the logistical and medical support part.


74. The mechanized battalion may perform the following tasks:
- depending on the type of tactical activity, the place and role in combat, the strength and activity of the enemy in the mechanized brigade or separately, in closing the state border, in siege combat, anti-diversion, anti-airborne activities and as a tactical airborne,
- when deployed in non-military threats, in strengthening the protection of the state border, guarding important objects,
- in natural disasters, in peace, rescue and humanitarian operations or other non-standard operations outside the territory of the state.
