The M240 variant of the machine gun, the M240G, is the US Marine Corps standard medium machine gun. The Marine Corps replaced the aging M60E3 with it. This weapon was a further development of the M240E1 version, a coaxial and pivot machine gun for tanks and light armored vehicles. With the introduction of the M240G, the U.S.M.C was given a versatile weapon - after installing an "infantry modification kit" (flash suppressor, sights, barrel grip, pistol grips, bipod or tripod and visor) usable for infantry squad fire.
The M240G has three positions of throttle adjustment, allowing this weapon to fire 650 to 950 rounds per minute. The weapon fires 650-750 rounds per minute when set to the first setting, 750-850 rounds per minute when set to the second setting, and 850-950 rounds per minute when set to the third setting.
