Unit arises 20. June 1942 on the base of the Old Sarum as a unit intended primarily to control artillery fire, carried out but also courier and connecting flights. Its flying personnel were members of the artillery, who went through pilot training. The unit participates in the allied landings in Normandy (operation Overlord), and then supports the british 2nd. the army (2nd Army) during the fighting in France, in the Netherlands and Germany, where it ends its war pilgrimage. Her squadron, the swarm and the individual aircraft operated from suitable surfaces directly on the front line and cooperate with individual artillery units. In Germany there is also a 15. September 1945 disbanded.
