Sperrmaschine (Pionier-Sonderfahrzeug)
In the development of Einheitsfahrgestellen (standard chassis) for trucks, M.A.N. also developed an 8-wheel chassis for Einheitsfahrgestells für mittlere Lastkraftwagen (standard chassis for medium-duty trucks). Probably only four chassis were produced, which were used in the conversion to special engineer amphibious vehicles in 1940. These were transport and recovery vehicles powered by an 8-cylinder diesel engine. A classic rectangular vehicle frame was welded to the structure, on which a seaworthy body was then mounted. The vehicles were capable of carrying, for example, a lorry weighing up to 4 tonnes. In the first source mentioned above, there is a nice photo of a vehicle with a loading ramp used to load a MAN E 3000 Diesel truck. The sources state that the pair of vehicles were equipped with a 40-tonne winch and a support plough. The winch was positioned in the middle of the vehicle, the plough at the rear. Interestingly, the 40-ton winch was used in Bergepanther dump tanks without any significant changes in later years. However, interesting and powerful amphibious vehicles were not mass-produced. After the conversion of a quartet of machines, the project was cancelled. The vehicles presumably reached the end of their service life at the company's parent factory M.A.N.
