Special Purpose Division No. 28 (or Special Use Division 28, depending on the translation) was apparently actually part of the 21st Waffen-SS Police Regiment. The handwritten list of 22 members of the division located in Bystřice nad Pernštejnem is entitled "5./II SS Polizei Reg. 21", on the opposite side it is stated that the team falls under the command of the Sicherheitspolizei Brno and there is also a designation z.b.kom. 28. It is a pity that a similar list has not been preserved yet, at least for Nové Město na Moravě ...

1) As far as I know, there has never been a "21st Waffen-SS Police Regiment". The historical axis in the years 1939-1945 (or from the change from the operational group to the regiment) looked like this:

- & gt; 1939 - Police Regiment 2
------ & gt; 1939-1942 - Moravian Police Regiment
--------- & gt; 1942-1943 - Police Regiment 21
------------ & gt; 1943-1945 - SS 21st Police Regiment

So "SS" in the name yes, "Waffen-SS" no.

2) As far as I know, the police regiments and police regiments of the SS fell under the riot police (and the SS in the name had a rather honorary character - an accompanying phenomenon of increasing interconnectedness of DPol and SS), while special use units fell under the security police.

3) I would not say that ZbV-K 28 was part of pol.p. SS 21. It is possible that in Bystřice at that time there was both a support point ZbV-K 28 and the named 5th Company II. battalion pol.p. SS 28. I will try to look into the source I mentioned to see if there will be anything.

4) There would be no photo or a little more accurate description of the document. How exactly is it arranged, who issued it, who signed it, to whom it was intended, etc.?

Sure, the 21st Waffen-SS Police Regiment is bullshit, I realized a moment after I sent it. I meant "good", but I wrote it wrong. Anyway, thanks for the alert.

With Bystřice, it's all totally overwhelmed. The "document" is an ordinary piece of squared paper, on which the data I rewrote are handwritten, and then the names and ranks of the members of the department are miserable. No signature, no stamp. This may be information obtained, for example, from one of the prisoners, who were caught in the area in May 1945 quite a lot. But this is pure speculation…

However, the unit was not the only one in the city. I managed to find out the following from several sources: from December 23, 1944, an unknown police anti-guerrilla unit was manned by a crew in the Sokolovna in Bystřice. It was served by 40 men and commanded by "meister (police trainee?) Holst". On January 11, 1945, another 10 men arrived in the city, allegedly members of the SD, commanded by "Criminal Secretary Bossard" (names and ranks are literal transcripts from the city chronicle) - it must be the criminal secretary of SS-Untersturmführer Karel Bussat, who commanded the Bystrice " branch ”ZbV-K 28, as stated in your contribution. I believe that although the chronicle states that there were 10 members of the "SD", they are probably members of the ZbV-K 28. According to available data, the Germans searched closer and more distant surroundings of the city and tracked down a guerrilla bunker near Borac, where they captured several prisoners. During the interrogation on April 13 in Bystřice, they beat out an unknown Russian captain, and the remaining two men allegedly managed to escape. The latest information about the members of the "SD" comes from April 20, when they were to leave their headquarters in Bystřice.

I have not been able to find out more so far, although I have been dealing with the issue of the liberation of this region for several years. Finding out the names and designations of the units that operated here at the end of the war will in most cases be a superhuman task, because most of the documents were destroyed and witnesses consider every German to be an SS…

Anyway, thanks for the help, I'll be glad if you can find anything else.

I have just found the following details on the website http://www.gruntova.cz/2svvalka.htm:
the 5th Company of the 21st SS Police Regiment from Brno was stationed in Letovice. The company was in the combat division of the regiment valid on 28.12. 1944 designated as Einsatzkommando Schmöckel, parts of which were located in Blansko, Bystřice nad Pernštejnem and Nové Město na Moravě. In mid-January, the Letovice Jagdkommando was supplemented by Special Purpose Division No. 28. The Letovice Sipo service station then had approximately 25-35 members. From this it can be concluded that you are right and ZbV Kommando 28 was not really part of the 21st SS Police Regiment, but was associated with it for some time.

At the beginning of January, R. Pražan from Újezd near Kunštát announced to the Gestapo that partisans were hiding in the forest in a bunker near Nýrov. Criminal Commissioner Koch personally inspected the terrain, and when he was sure of the guerrilla station, he turned to the Aviation fighter squad of the riot police. The fighter squadron of 24 men under Koch's leadership set out on the morning of January 11 from Letovice to Újezd. The Nazis surrounded the village and arrested the guerrillas' collaborators. Then they set out for the forest and surrounded the bunker in which four Soviet guerrillas were killed. The unit then went to Nýrov, where Koch arrested other partisan collaborators.

At this time, a Special Use Division 28 arrived in Letovice, commanded by SS-Hauptsturmführer Criminal Commissioner Herbert Kuka, boasting of bringing order in Odessa at the time. The division was moved to Moravia from Hungary, having previously deployed in France, the USSR and Romania. The unit settled in Letovice - it had its station in a German school in Jindřichův and set up several cells on the premises of Faber's textile factory, later others were established in Červinkova textilka. He was to operate in the political districts of Boskovice, Nové Město na Moravě and partly also Brno-venkov. His main target was the guerrillas from the Jermak group. Kuka did not receive the SS Weapons assistance unit, but cooperated with II. battalion of the SS 21 police regiment, which had a staff in Letovice. His 5th (Bystřice nad Pernštejnem), 7th (Montenegro) and 8th Company (Letovice) cooperated with the division, which were located in the operational area of the division. Kuka also had several members of the Brno Gestapo management office at his disposal, who were to help him get acquainted with local conditions. He also received several confidants who joined the provocateurs Kuka had brought from previous positions.

The unit went to the first cation on January 17, when it arrested guerrilla collaborators in Újezd, Hodonín near Kunštát and Sulíkov. It was a continuation of the previous action against the guerrillas near Nýrov.

The next day, Jermak was preparing to pick up material dropped from a plane. On the same day, however, she wanted to take the action of the Third MS. a strike company that intended to raid the Hodonín gendarmerie station. In the inn, however, they encountered German gendarmes and there was a shootout in which one gendarme died. This was followed by a search operation with the participation of not only the gendarmerie, but also other anti-guerrilla forces, most likely Kuk's unit. The action ended without a positive result, however, Jermak could not set up a signal for the transport aircraft in this situation, and the armament and equipment was not taken over.

On the night of January 21-22, the Olexa Borkaňuk group was planted in the village of Pohledy and was scheduled to land near the village of Bělá. As they landed in the Sudetenland, they were immediately reported to the Gestapo and the Germans began a search operation. The Letovice 8th Company of the SS 21 Police Regiment was deployed to the action. However, it did not find the partisans. However, thanks to the German population, the Nazis gradually specified the whereabouts of the guerrillas. In the meantime, they passed into the protectorate. The Nazis had part of the troops persecuted by the guerrillas, and another part (members of anti-guerrilla formations, armed forces and gendarmerie) was stationed near Bělá, where they stood in the marching route. The guerrillas were eventually surrounded by members of the gendarmerie, SD and ZbV section 28 in a quarry near Křenov. Only two survived - the chief of staff managed to break through, one partisan fell wounded in captivity, but was later shot.
