In 1942, at the instigation of WaPrüf 4, the idea was conceived to use the platforms produced and planned for the construction of unified "waffenträger" (weapons carrier). One of the platforms was the Pz.Kpfw. IV, or the hybrid platform Pz.Kpfw. III/IV, which used parts from both types of German medium tanks. In the case of the use of this platform, it was a medium weapons carrier (mittleren Waffenträger). Designs were made for a heavy anti-tank gun 12.8 cm Kanone 81 (L/55) and a heavy field howitzer 15 cm s.F.H. 18 (L/29.5), a sketch of which is in the appendix of this topic. This was of course one of a plethora of projects, and given that production of the Pz.kpfw platform had long been envisaged to cease, the Pz.kpfw. IV, so this project remained only in the form of a sketch.
