Chambers s rodinou a prezidentem Trumanem na ceremonii udělení Medaile cti 1. listopadu 1950.
O několik hodin později byl na Trumana spáchán pokus o atentát dvěma portorikánskými nacionalisty (Oscar Collazo a Griselio Torresola) v době Blair, který se nacházel přes ulici. Atentát byl neúspěšný.
