Formed on 4 May 1940 at Donibristle as a fighter squadron dedicated to floatplane operations with the Rocy. However, its disestablishment occurred just nine days later, on 13 May. It was re-established on 1 January 1941 at Aboukirk, Egypt. It existed until 10 January 1943. The formation of another 805th Squadron then took place on 1 July 1945 at Machrihanish. During the war, she operated primarily from land-based bases and from aircraft carriers HMS Illustrious (1941) and HMS Formidable (1941).
