History The Royal Malta Artillery Regiment

The history of the regiment began in 1800. When the Maltese Light Infantry Battalion was formed in the British Army.

In 1802, the battalion was disbanded and replaced by three different units The Maltese Provincial Battalions, The Malta Coast Artillery and The Maltese Veterans.

In 1815, these units merged to form The Royal Malta Fencible Regiment.

In 1829, the regiment was included in the British Regular Army.

In 1861, The Royal Malta Fencible Regiment, which was reorganized by an infantry regiment into an artillery regiment. All members were given the opportunity to serve in the new regiment. All but two people decided to remain in active service in the Royal Malta Fencible Artillery Regiment.

In 1889, a new regiment of The Royal Malta Regiment Of Militia was formed. (This regiment is formed on the principle of militia, only 3% of members are professionals and work full time.) Therefore, it was approved that the name of the Royal Malta Fencible Regiment will lose the word Fencible and add Artillery. Royal Malta Artillery

Royal Malta Artillery operates weapons in various fortifications and batteries throughout the island.
Since 1900, one battery is sent to Egypt to perform crew duty.

This regiment forms the backbone of Malta's anti-aircraft defense during World War II.

In the years 1962 - 1970 part of the regiment served in the British Army in Germany on the Rhine.

The Royal Malta Artillery of the year becomes part of the newly established Army of the Land Forces of Malta - Malta Land Force.

In 1974, the 1st Regiment Royal Malta Artillery was renamed the 1 Regiment Armed Forces of Malta and became an infantry unit again.

Výstroj a výzbroj The Royal Malta Artillery v roce 1890
